WFS vs FBM: Which is Right for You?

Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS)

Walmart stores your inventory and fulfills orders. Similar to Amazon FBA.

Pros:

  • • Free 2-day shipping badge
  • • Walmart handles customer service
  • • No fulfillment staff needed

Cons:

  • • Storage fees apply
  • • Less control over packaging
  • • Strict prep requirements

Fulfilled by Merchant (FBM)

You (or we) fulfill orders from your own warehouse. Full control.

Pros:

  • • No storage fees
  • • Custom packaging & inserts
  • • Multi-channel inventory

Cons:

  • • No free shipping badge
  • • You handle customer service
  • • Strict on-time delivery metrics

💡 Our Recommendation:

Use WFS for fast-moving SKUs to get the 2-day shipping badge. Use FBM for slower SKUs, high-value items, or products requiring custom packaging. We can handle both models seamlessly.

Labeling & Routing Compliance

Walmart Item ID Labels

Every unit going to WFS must have a Walmart Item ID label. We apply these labels using thermal printers for maximum scan accuracy. Label placement follows Walmart's guidelines (top right corner, away from seams).

Common rejection reason: Barcode placed on a seam or fold, making it unscannable. We verify every label placement before shipment.

Address Validation & Routing

Walmart provides a routing guide that maps your origin ZIP + product category to a specific fulfillment center. Incorrect routing = rejected shipment. We validate every address against the latest routing guide.

Step 1

Check product category

Step 2

Match origin ZIP code

Step 3

Confirm FC assignment
